Fire has a mesmerizing quality. People are drawn to it like flies to light. If something is burning, we must watch. We gaze into the flames and lose ourselves in thoughts and emotions. A primal feeling wells up inside as we see what fire does to everything it touches. It can be a forest fire, a building aflame, or a burning car like this one that happened in Manotick, Ontario. It draws a crowd to it whenever it happens. People feel compelled to stop what they are doing and just watch. You may be just listening to the news broadcast on tv but if a wildfire or housefire is mentioned, most people will look up and to se the images.

What is it about fire that draws us in? We'll sit quietly in front of a campfire for ours watching the changing colors or sing and dance about in celebration. To add some color, one family I know throws in some copper tubing and pieces of rubber house to get green and bright blue flames.

Next time you see a fire or sit around a campfire, relax and let your mind wander, let your feelings go and see what emotions and thoughts come from within you.

One of my worst obessions for many years was magazines. I could not walk into a bookshop or newsstand without picking up at least one, usually more. I love to read and magazines provided quick fixes when I didn't have time to to sit down and get into a good book. Or if I was stopping somewhere for a coffee and had nothing to read, I first had to pick up a mag. This obsession was one of the major peeves of my ex wife. The constant piles of new magazines showing up at home and the money spent on them. Hey I figured better than dying of lung cancer from a cigarete addiction or weekly nights out with the guys drinking 'til the cows came home. She didn't see it that way.

The thing about magazines is that you can learn about a lot of varied topics without having to delve into huge voluminous books. There are magazines covering just about any topic you choose. Archeology, photography, starting a business, home renovations, sports, cars, collecting, computers, and on and on.You can keep up to date with celebrity info, fashion, news, etc.

Of course all this is now available online as well, but there is something about reading a magazine or a book that feels good. It is easier to curl up with anywhere you want to and relax and read.

Some of my favorites included:Archeology, Photography Monthly, Canadian House and Home, Writer's Digest, Cowboys and Indians, Today's Parent, National Geographic, Hoop,
American Photo, True West, Creative Screenwriting, Parent, This Old House.

Something tells me that with the amount of magazines sold each year and the number of new titles showing up on the racks, that I'm not the only one with this obsession.
We the people are obsessed. We need the latest and best of everything from electronic gadgets and gizmos to the fastest way to lose weight or pack on muscle, the easiest meals to the trendiest restaurants. We are obsessed with the coolest trends, the hottest fashions, the newest home furnishings (when the next Ikea catalog will be released), and of course with everything to do with celebrities, their ups and downs, the winners and the losers. Almost everyone has at least one obsession and most have many. So this site will be devoted to all things obsessive.
